PLEASE don't use Pam. It is full of propellants which means basically "rocket fuel". Go to a kitchen supply store like Home Outfitters and get a pump bottle that you can fill with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and use that. (I know, I'm really bossy!!!). They are about $10 and will last for ages. This is what I use.

I feel like I beat you up constantly. Are you bruising yet?

Back on track today, with the exception of being a little high in fat. It feels good to be back in control after yesterday! Thanks Linda and Kerry for helping me through yesterday. It really does make a difference to have someone there.

Oh ya, that looks like a very good day.

Having people to commiserate with is very helpful as long as they can also be your cheerleaders and spur you on to better things. I really like the balance here at iChange that we are achieving. Empathy and Motivation are a good team.

Well, since I have to be accountable here is what I have to say. I have trouble identifying why I go off the deep end sometimes. I made a conscious decision to go to Micky D's this morning. I was aware of it every step of the way. I told myself I could get out of the drive-thru line at any time. I really wanted one of these. Problem is that I ordered two and ate both. I could say that I am cheap, but good grief they are only a dollar a piece. I don't know why I ate two of them other than they do taste good to me. I am overly full so that is one consequence. The other consequence is that I have to look at my nutrition journal for the rest of the day and feel guilty. Is it anxiety that causes this? Today is a nice day for me. I'm going to get a massage and then I am going in to work for awhile....not a big deal. So why do we do these things?

    kerrya
Guilt is so destructive! Just accept it an move on! Think of it at part of your nice treat day, realize it's something you don't really want to put in your body regularly and let it go. I ate way too many carbs at my sister's house. Now I have to clean my system up again. Not going to feel guilty over it though...just gonna buckle down and get to work!

    lindaminer
Friday night I went over to a girlfriend's house for dinner and said "tonight I'm taking off my Nutritionist's hat". We ordered pizza, had red wine and chocolate cake. It was awesome - for about 30 minutes, then I felt like s#@%. My stomach swelled so much I looked 6 months pregnant and my brain fog was so thick it had the tug boats on the river blowing their fog horns.

But, I woke up yesterday and went for a run, cut the grass, reorganized my office and ate a bunch of broccoli. Onward and upward.....

    lizbeth
Thanks guys. I feel better now. I will regroup and get it together tomorrow!

    lizbeth
One last thing, thanks to Kerry I got brave enough to try bison burgers tonight. They were good! My honey bunny likes them too!

I'm curious as you why you are choosing canned pears over fresh. Being canned means they have been boiled so basically all the nutritional value is gone. Also, there is often sugar added, even the juice has sugar. Check the ingredient list.

Fresh fruit is infinitely better than canned. I'd rather you have dried fruit even if it is a convenience factor. Remember 1/4 cup of dried fruit equal 1 cup of fresh fruit (2 servings).

    lizbeth
We never get nice pears where I live. They are hard as rocks. Sometimes I am able to ripen them in a brown paper bag, but they don't taste very good. The ones I have been eating are from Trader Joes and the ingredient list is: Pear Halves, White Grape Juice concentrate, water, citric acid, and ascorbic acid. I guess the white grape juice would be the culprit???

    lindaminer
I do sympathize with your situation. I love pears and they are a great source of fiber. The juice and acids are included to preserve them so they don't rot. I'm not saying don't eat them but you really need to think of them as a "treat" and not one of your fruits because the nutritional value just isn't there. Try looking for some dried fruits. I love dried cranberries with nuts. They add a nice tartness.

    lizbeth
Okay, I will give it a try. I agree, dried cranberries are very good.

Yucky day. Had arthritis pain all day and it really wiped me out. Not sure what brought it on since I have been feeling very good the last few weeks. Haven't exercised since Monday so maybe that has something to do with it.

    lindaminer
I had a look back over your journal for the week and you ate tomatoes almost every day. Tomatoes are known as a "night shade" (also potatoes, eggplant & peppers) and these are particularly bad for people with arthritis. They have a compound in them called Solanine that can trigger an allergic-type reaction in certain people and cause joint pain. I would avoid all of these for a few weeks and see if there is an improvement. Avocado on the other hand, is an excellent choice for people with Arthritis so keep eating that.

    lizbeth
Ooooh, that is a tough one. I just love tomatoes....and for that matter, I love red peppers too. I will give it a try and see if there is any improvement. I added cinnamon to my latte today hoping that might help too...

I'm a little surprised at this considering that I have been on travel the last few days and didn't always have good selections from which to make a choice...and then there were a few poor choices that I managed to make all on my own.

    lindaminer
That's great news. You have been eating very well so I think it is totally understandable.
