@redie1 Nikki-- one thing you may be encountering with the "hungry" vs. "full" scenario: remember, the hypothalamus in our brain has TWO centers that we should try to satisfy with each meal: 1) the Taste Center (TC), and 2) the Fullness Center (FC). It is possible that one can be satisfied without the other. For example, if the TC is satisfied, but not the FC, you may have had filled your tastes/cravings of whatever item you were eating (e.g. salty chips), but if you haven't been chewing slowly for 20 minutes, your FC hasn't had time to register-- so you may just move on to the next craving and keep eating until your FC is satisfied. In the opposite scenario (which sounds like your problem), if your FC is satisfied (e.g. you're eating slowly, at the right times when your body needs food, etc.), but you're not eating the things your brain and body are craving (to satisfy the TC), then your brain will tell you to keep eating until you've satisfied that Taste Center. That's why "they" say you should sensibly and moderately respond to cravings for taste that your body is having, otherwise you might keep eating even after your FC is satisfied. Obviously, there are ways to retrain your TC and FC (for example you may hear people say that when they eat more healthily, they crave healthier foods like fruits and vegetables, etc.), so this is not a black and white science! =) Just thought it would give you some more insight to what your crazy brain is doing to you right now!!! ha ha
