Pen and paper or keyboard and monitor?

    jillith71 posted on: 1/26/10
When you journal, do you prefer to write it out, or type it out? I never kept a written journal when I was younger, but I currently blog and I love it. I can type faster than I write, so it's easier for me to keep up with my thoughts by typing it out. And related to that, do you prefer your food logs written in a notebook or in an online log like iChange provides?

I've been keeping paper journals since I was 8 years old. I tried livejournal for a few years, but there was the whole complication about making friends.....I didn't feel like I could really put everything down with others watching. Facebook feels like I'm oversharing, so I haven't been updating status as much lately....
I bought another paper journal when I moved into my new apartment last July and I've been a little better at regular entries in it. I think journaling is essential. On a lazy day, I will search through years of journals, looking for the same date of that year, and see where I was at that point in my life.

I used to dislike entering food on the computer, but the iChange tool is very useful to me. I like it quite a bit.

Back and forth. Back and forth. It's hard to choose. I can type way faster than I can write, but sometimes it's better for me to slow down and use a pen. Maybe it makes me think more clearly rather than just dumping? I'm more likely to use keyboard and monitor, though, for two reasons. First, I can password protect it and no one else in the world ever gets to see it. Second, I probably won't lose it. As I'm on a mission to de-clutter as much as possible, less paper is good!

Hand write. I prefer to hand write every thing! I can type pretty fast, but I just love to put pen to paper.

I love the idea of writing in a pretty journal, but I never do it. I have lots of beautiful paper journals that I usually end up using for making lists!

I do both. I keep a tally in my small calendar just for food and exercise and then I input everything online so I don't forget anything during the day.

Personal things I enjoy writing down in a notebook or special journal. Events (such as vacations, ect) I like to blog for my family since my husband and i live 1200miles from them. Helps us feel closer.

I LOVE keeping my food/exercise journals online. I hate searching for info on packages and writing it down, back and forth every time i eat. When it adds itself up on here it makes me feel more productive(or maybe a little more shameful!). Sounds slightly lazy but who wants to have to keep a calculator on hand all the time.

I food log on both, going back and forth as the mood strikes me.
I like paper because it's simple. I can just write how many cups or teaspoon I ate of something. But when I use the computer it takes a lot longer because I have to change nutrition info to fit my needs.
i.e. The log may only have the info for 1/2a cup available but I ate 2 tablespoons so that means that I have to figure it out and enter it.
