How do you respond to friends who don't think you need to lose weight.

Anyone have a good response to when a friend or acquaintance, or coworker says, "Why are you trying to lose weight" or "Why do you need to lose weight" I am less than 20 pounds overweight... but this is too heavy for me...

Maybe try "because it will help me to feel better".

yeah- i tend to just tell people i am trying to "eat healthier" rather than "on a diet"... most people understand that we should eat less sugar, less processed foods and more veggies and 'real' food... they just don't live that way...

When we had guests for dinner on Friday past, I didn't tell them a thing, just fed them a healthy meal and they loved it. Of course the tapas were a bit "undiety" but they loved them and I didn't eat any and no questions asked. Can't wait until some weight is gone and people notice, so I can tell them about ichange and how it is helping me!!

You have a lot of options. You can not mention it, you can refer to it as making healthier choices instead of trying to lose weight, or you can explain to them why it's important to you. I think it's tough for people to remember that everyone is different, and that just because you think I look fine, I might still not be comfortable. I'd also say too to remember that for the most part these people say these things because they love you and want to make sure you know it.

I think it's usually meant to be a compliment, sometimes though there are the not so nice people that don't want others to be too happy. I have always just told people I'm just more comfortable being a little lighter. I agree with others though, I just don't mention that I'm "dieting" I just really don't say anything and just eat.

Just tell them that you want to be healthy. Thank them for their compliment but that you're not satisfied with it.
