Maybe I'm a cynic, but I have a really hard time taking seriously any book that says it can "miraculously" change my body. Don't get me wrong. I definitely believe in miracles. But if someone had discovered something that would radically help people with weight loss, it would be in every newspaper, every health magazine and publication. It would be everywhere. Just my initial impression.

I can't help but jump in on this one. I've never seen anyone make-over their body in six weeks and come out healthier for it. True weight loss that you can SUSTAIN (and this is really the key to any program you look at) needs to recaliber everything from your lifestyle to your metabolism. It's a lifelong process and what is attractive about that over the quick fix is you heal your mind body and spirit along the way. Your thinking changes, you feel better about yourself and you have newfound energy.

No, I don't believe in this either.

In 2006 I went on a very low calorie program (something like 500cal/day) - based on shakes and water. It was coupled with group counselling and under close professional supervision. I lost about 65lb in about 5 months and that is a complete body makeover, trust me!

However, when I start eating food again, the weight started to pile up again, so the only way to keep it low would be to go back to drinking shakes for a month every 4-5 months - so it didn't really work.

What did make a difference however was the group counselling - it was then when I understood that although only me can lose the weight, I can only do it alongside with others.

I don't believe you could have that make over with any diet or otherwise and have it been healthy or long term. I as I have heard many say how easy it is to gain, and hard to lose, but in reality i know in my heart i didn't gain this extra 30-40 pounds in 8 weeks...so why
do i get frustrated when i don't lose it in 8 weeks...It is a slow accumulation over time and taken off the same way is much healthier
and usually with greater chance of maintaining... its just hard as we all want that immediate gratification!

Coll90 - I really needed to be reminded of that this morning. It took years to get that weight on. Now hopefully it won't take years to get it off, but a few weeks is just not realistic. Thank you for reminding me.

Studies show that people who lose weight slowly, at a rate of 1-2 lbs per week, over a longer period of time are more likely to keep it off. Therefore, the 6 week makeover would theoretically only work if you have less than 15 lbs to lose. If you have 50 lbs to lose, it should take at least 25 weeks. The plan could be a good jump start for some but you would have to keep going on a realistic plan.

I agree with Linda...and extend even further to suggest, it now needs to encompass a lifetime lifestyle...otherwise the pendulum will just swing backwards...

I happened upon this forum post today, and was thinking along the same lines- it needs to be a complete makeover, mind, body, spirit- it's not like I gained it all in 6 weeks, I definitely won't lose it all in six weeks! Also, if I restrict my diet, as I have in the past, I will and have gained it all back unless I stick to dieting extremes.... who wants to do that?! Not me!
