Happy Monday everyone. I noticed over the weekend a lot of you chose gum for your snack. The Biggest Loser, the popular weight loss television show, promotes gum as a great way to curb a sweet tooth. That's true, however, they don't mean for it to replace healthy snacks.
Our expert nutritionists (and theirs) say that eating small meals throughout the day actually increases you metabolism and helps control cravings. Snacks should be small, but combine complex carbohydrates (whether whole grains, fruit or veggies) and protein. Plain yogurt and berries, whole grain crackers and hummus, a small handful of nuts and carrot sticks, are all great examples. If you're hungry, you aren't eating enough of the right kind of foods (you may even be dehydrated).
Write down several snack ideas for yourself and have them onhand. Research shows that those who eat several small meals a day are also far more likely to keep the weight off, for good.
Have a healthy week,
Katie
